One-day chamber music workshops in schools

SSCMS Year Round Projects
The aim of the SSCMS Year Round Projects is to provide high quality chamber music tuition to gifted and talented instrumentalists within the school environment. The projects encourage and develop the musical skills of each individual participant.

Schools can book one-day workshops, which would usually run from approximately 11am -- 7pm. All orchestral instruments and piano can be catered for, although groups tend to be based around a core of string players. Parts are sent to the school at least one month before a workshop in order for participants to prepare their parts in advance. Each project culminates in a concert, which can be recorded and used for GCSE and AS assessments. This concert provides a focus for the coaching sessions as well as a valuable listening experience for participants and other students. The concert includes a chamber work performed by the tutors, giving the audience an accessible opportunity to hear a professional performance. The SSCMS tutors, also known as The Regency Ensemble, are all professional musicians who have extensive experience of playing and coaching chamber music at the highest level.

Chamber music coaching is the main focus of each project; chamber groups are carefully organised so that each participant is playing with others of a similar standard. Playing chamber music requires high levels of verbal and non-verbal communication, providing a valuable chance to develop inter-personal skills. This is one of the lasting benefits of participating in musical ensembles and the nurturing of these skills is fundamental to the SSCMS experience. In addition to chamber music, participants also work together in a large ensemble, which allows for musical interaction between varying ages and abilities.

Projects can be booked for three, four or five chamber groups. The maximum number of participants per group is five but the optimum is four. Fees are set out below:

Three chamber groups: £620
Four chamber groups: £760
Five chamber groups: £900
