Preparatory Courses
One-day
chamber music workshops for young instrumentalists
The Dharma School, Ladies Mile Road, Brighton
SSCMS Preparatory Courses aim to introduce
young instrumentalists to chamber music in a friendly environment. The
workshops cater for bowed string instruments, wind and piano.
Each participant is assigned to a chamber group,
which is chosen according to ability and experience. In addition all
participants play together with the tutors in a large ensemble. The
workshop closes with an informal performance, which includes a movement
played by the tutors.
Participants are expected to be between ABRSM
Grade 2 & 5 standards.

Information
Repertoire
Music is sent out six weeks before each workshop; everyone is expected
to learn their parts in advance and encouraged to take them to their
teacher to help with the preparation.
Please bring your part with you to the course
and please also bring a music stand and a pencil.
Fees
The workshop fee is £40 and should be paid on application;
this will be refunded if we are unable to accommodate you.
There is a discounted fee of £35 for
applications received one month or more before the closing date for
each workshop.
Location
The courses take place at The
Dharma School: 149 Ladies Mile Road, Brighton BN1 8TB.
Other Information
Parents and teachers are welcome to come along to any part
of the day. The workshop will end with a performance at 6pm, which will
include a short piece played by the tutors and is open to anyone who
would like to come.
