Two-day non-residential chamber music courses

The Dharma School, Ladies Mile Road, Brighton

SSCMS Intermediate Courses have replaced the Junior Summer School since 2007. They are intensive chamber music courses, which take place over two days in the friendly environment of the Dharma School in Patcham. Each participant is assigned to a chamber group, which is chosen according to ability and experience. In addition to chamber music coaching, everyone is involved in a large ensemble and there is individual coaching on chamber music parts. The course closes with an informal performance at the end of the second day, which includes a short movement played by the SSCMS tutors; The Regency Ensemble.

Information

Applicants
SSCMS intermediate courses are primarily for bowed string instruments with a few spaces available for wind, brass and piano. Participants are expected to be between 12 and 18 years old and to have reached ABRSM Grade 6 standard or above. We welcome applications from individuals or pre-formed groups. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis; please apply early to avoid disappointment.

Repertoire
If you have any repertoire preferences, we will do our best to accommodate them. As the duration of the course is short, it is essential that parts are learnt thoroughly before the first day. Music will be allocated six weeks before each course and we encourage everyone to listen to recordings and take their parts to their teachers to help with the preparation.

Location
The courses take place at The Dharma School: 149 Ladies Mile Road, Brighton BN1 8TB.

Fees
The fee for each two-day course is £80; lunch and refreshments are provided each day as part of the course. A deposit of £20 is payable on application and will be refunded if we are unable to accommodate you. The balance is due six weeks before each course.
