SSCMS
Adult Amateurs
One-day
chamber music workshops in Brighton for amateur musicians
The SSCMS has been running chamber
music workshops for adults since 2002; these workshops are an opportunity
for people of any age, but similar standards, to work together on a
movement of a major piece of chamber music repertoire. Chamber groups
are usually based around a tutor who plays in the group but can also
be made up entirely of participants with a tutor coaching. Each workshop
closes with an informal performance of the day’s work, which includes
a short movement played by the tutors; The Regency Ensemble. The day
also includes a chamber orchestra session.

Information
Applicants
SSCMS adult amateur workshops are primarily for bowed string instruments,
but a few places are available for wind and piano; applications are
welcome from individuals or pre-formed groups. It is also possible to
apply for the chamber orchestra session alone. As a rough guideline,
we expect the minimum standard to be approximately ABRSM grade 6. While
every effort is made to cater for all who apply, where this is not possible
we will endeavour to offer a place on a future workshop. Places will
be given on a first come, first served basis; please apply early to
avoid disappointment.
Repertoire
If you have any repertoire preferences, we will do our best to accommodate
them. Groups and repertoire will be allocated six weeks before each
workshop and participants are encouraged to learn their parts in advance
in order to make the workshop a more fulfilling experience for everyone.
